only something is a special case or an exception
硬い言い方 (official explanations)
名の・動辞書形/ている形 +限り
based on a certain extent, something is done or is a certain state or condition
- when attached to a verb, progressive or potential verbs are common
普通形現在(plain present tense)(ナ形ーな/ーである・名ーである)+限り(は)
as long as
only in a certain state/condition/situation/circumstance will a certain state/condition/situation/circumstance continue.
- The latter half of the sentence can’t be past tense.
名の・動辞書/た/ている形+限りでは
Something can be said based on a limited source of information.
- The latter half is an evaluation or information.
名+に限って
3 meanings:
A: different from the norm
-After, there is a meaning of “It’s always different, so it’s a special case.”
B: only during; this happens to coincide with other unfortunate events
- there is a negative feeling of dissatisfaction
C: Since I especially believe something, there shouldn’t be anything bad about it。
The latter half usually has はずはない/はない to express a judgment or evaluation.
