Special Flashcards
Why is biodiversity important to maintain and environment
The greater the variation within a species the more likely some members of population will survive environmental changes
Definition of biodiversity
A measure of the variety of all the different species of organisms on earth or within a particular ecosystem.
As well as reducing extinction conservation also:
Reduces disruption to food chains and food webs Makes it possible to for medicinal plant species to be discovered
Captive breeding is aimed: (2 points)
Create a stable, healthy population of species gradually re-introduce species back into it’s habitat
List 4 types of gene banks
Seed banks, Tissue banks, cryobanks, pollen banks
How does biodiversity benefit humans
Useful products and services Cures for diseases Rich and varied food supplies Ensure populations remain at a level
