When is a SPECI required for wind direction?
A change of >= 60 degrees for a speed >=10 knots
or a change of >=30 degrees for a speed >= 20 knots
When is a SPECI required for wind speed?
A change in the mean speed >= 10 knots.
When is a SPECI required for wind gust?
A change in the gust speed >= 10 knots or the mean speed >= 15knots
When is a SPECI required for prevailing visibility?
When the prevailing visibility crosses one of these boundaries • 9999m • 5000m • 3000m • 2000m • 1500m • 800m
When is a SPECI required for minimum visibility?
At the onset or cessation of the requirement to report a minimum visibility
OR
When the minimum visibility crosses one of the prevailing visibility boundaries
When is a SPECI required for present weather?
The onset, cessation or change of intensity of any of the following:
• Freezing precipitation (of any intensity)
• Freezing Fog
• Moderate or Heavy precipitation (including showers)
• Thunderstorm
• Squall
• Funnel Cloud
• Low drifiting or blowing, snow, sand or dust.

When is a SPECI required for cloud base?
When the lowest cloud of 5 oktas or more (BKN/OVC) changes height across one of these boundaries. • 2000ft • 1500ft • 1000ft • 700ft • 500ft • 300ft • 200ft • 100ft
When is a SPECI required for cloud amount?
When the amount of the lowest cloud below 1500ft changes from FEW/SCT to BKN/OVC or vice versa.
When is a SPECI required for temperature?
When the temperature changes by 2 degrees or more.
When is a SPECI required for pressure?
When the ‘as read’ pressure changes by 1hPa or more.
At what time, unrelated to weather, is a SPECI required?
When an accident/incident occurs on/near the aerodrome.
