Spearmans Rank Hypothesis Testing For Ranks Flashcards

1
Q

Why do we not use PMCC for rankings ins scores

A

REMEMBER FIRST RULE FOR PMCC TEST IS DATA MUST BE NORMALLY DISTRIBUTED . It is unlikely that ranked scores will be

2) not coming from a population, and even if it was not normally distributed

Thus can’t use PMCC, use spearman’s rank correlation coeffeicmt

Q

What can spearman’s rank cores, action coeffeicmt deal with that PMCC csn’t

A

1) SUBJECTIVE DATA (judge choices)
2) NUMERICAL DATA ( A, B C, D an be ranked but PMCC can’t)
3) NON LINEAR DATA

Q

WHAT TO DO IF RANKS ARE TIED

A

If they are tied, give them the AVERAGE OF THE TWO POSITIONS

So 5th and 6th, they both get 5.5

If 3 has the same, it would be 1st 2ns 3rd divide by 3, is 2

So they all get 2 as a score !

The next score is the thing after

Q

How to do

A

This case no row

So straight away start with null hypothesis which is THERE IS NO ASSOCIATION BETWEEN X AND Y

H1= some positive, some negative , or some ASSOCIATION

State critical value

Compare

Conclude.
