Speakers, Preamps, DI Boxes Flashcards
____ signal level should hit the preamp
Mic
Hi Z (impedence) input on preamp use it for
Instruments not mic
Yamaha NS10 speakers are
Passive and need amplifiers, connected by unbalanced circuit, carrying +40 speaker level signal
How DI conversión is done
Passive - transformer
Active - powered amp
Passive speakers vs active
Passive no power needed
Active amp built in, power needed
Different uses of a DI
- unbalanced to balanced signals, like instrument to mic or line level
- protect signal from interference
- reamping
Speaker level signals
The voltage is huge (40 volts) so noise isn’t really a problem. So they don’t need to be balanced. Speaker cables have 2 not 3 prongs
Noise floor
The amount of sound, measured in decibels, that a piece of gear naturally produced when you’re not running a signal through it
3 room modes
axial - parallel , tangential - 4 walls, and oblique - 6 walls. The most imporant one when treating a room is axial, because is the strongest one and significantly impact the way low frequencies sound in a room.
