Spatial Relationships Flashcards
inferior deep cervical nodes
on internal jugular vein, at subclavian
Phrenic Nerve
superficial on anterior scalene muscle, deep to subclavian vein
Subclavian artery
sandwiched between anterior and middle scalene
subclavian vein
anterior to the right and left anterior scalene muscles,
anterior to the phrenic nerve
thoracic duct
anterior to anterior scalene on left side
pterion components
greater wing of the sphenoid bone (anterior)
front bone (anterior and superior)
parietal bone (posteriorly and superiorly)
temporal bone (posteriorly and inferiorly)
middle meningeal artery
scalp bleeding/infection spreading
not to neck–occipitalis to neck
not laterally–epicranial aponeurosis is continuous with temporal fascia
can spread anteriorly– frontalis enters supraorbital skin
Superior Cervical Nodes
on internal jugular in the carotid sheath
recurrent laryngeal
looped under right subclavian or aorta
groove between esophagus and trachea
superior and inferior thyroid artery
pierce visceral layer of pretracheal layer of deep cervical facia
superior–branches from ECA and runs inferiorly to supply the anteriorsuperior aspect
inferior–largest branch from THYROcervical trunk, runs superomedially posterior to supply the posteroinferior aspect and the inferior poles of the gland.
superior cervical ganglia
transverse processes of C1-C2
posterior to internal carotid artery
middle cervical ganglion
C6
inferior cervical ganglion (stellite)
anterior to first rib
