Spatial distribution of land cover Flashcards
Cultivated + Managed
removal of natural vegetation + replaced it with another type of vegetation.
eg. Land cleared of trees + scrub + food crops planted (small scale farm in India)
Natural + Semi-Natural Vegetation
made up of bother natural + semi-natural. natural vegetation is developed as a result of the interconnection between climates, soils, hydrology, landforms etc. Semi-natural is influenced by human activity.
eg. Natural vegetation of coastal northern Qld
Cultivated Aquatic or Regularly Flooded Areas
aquatic crop, purposely planned, cultivated or harvested + require conditions watering.
eg. in the south-east coast + North-East Asia for wet rice.
Natural + Semi-Natural Aquatic Land Cover or Regularly Flooded Vegetated Areas.
vegetations adapted to water that’s either close to or on the surface of the land.
eg. coastal wetlands supporting mangroves.
Artificial Surfaces + Associated Areas
natural cover replaced with a variety of constructed surfaces.
eg.buildings, transport, waste dumps, factories + mines.
Bare Areas
less than 4% vegetation cover.
eg. Deserts (Simpon Desert)
Artificial Water Bodies, Snow + Ice
dams on rivers form resivours of water or artificial bodies of water that serve urban, industrial or rural needs.
eg. Lake Nasser = daming Nile river at Aswan in Egypt
Natural Water Bodies, Snow + Ice
large volumes of water have accumulated natural water + bodies are formed.
eg. Lake Victoria (east-Africa)
