Spatial Data Modeling Flashcards
1
Q
What does abstraction refer to?
A
- Reduced detail and only selected features/info
- Something that represents the real thing
ex. formula, data table, map. represented by points, lines etc
2
Q
What are the 4 levels of modelling?**
A
- Real world - In all complexity
- Conceptual model - Your understanding of it
- Logical model - possible computer realization (software independent)
- Physical model - actual digital structure (software implementation)
3
Q
Expand upon the conceptual model
A
- Spatial entities (points, lines, polygons, surfaces etc)
- -Discrete Objects: entities that occupy space
- -Field: Continuous variable (elevation or sound)
4
Q
2 definitions of field**
A
- Category of data (database)
2. Continuous variable in the conceptual model
5
Q
Expand on the conceptual model definition of field
A
- continuous variable
- surfaces (elevation, aspect, soil depth)
- value varies through space (continuous change of value)
6
Q
What is a model?
A
A representation or simplification of real world.
