Master Questions Flashcards
What is table relation?
a definite Skull n Cross boner
- Combining two tables next to eachother
- Can be either Join (visually combined) or
- Relation (next to eachother but not visually combined)
What are the 4 methods of data classification?
- User Defined
- Natural Breaks
- Quantile
- Equal Interval
Explain the user defined method of data classification and tell where it is useful.
Each class has a range specified by the user. -Useful when you want classes to reflect specific data
Explain the natural breaks method of data classification
Statistical formula finds breaks that are inherent in the data
- The default setting
Explain the quantile method of data classification?
Equal number of values in each class
Explain the equal interval method of data classification
Interval between classes is the same.
-separated by intervals of the same percentage ex. classes with intervals of 10%.
Define Data classification in GIS
The grouping of raw number data into predetermined classes, defined in a way that best reflects the attribute values and allows the user to interpret the data.
What are the 3 Levels of ARC GIS?
Arcview - beginner
Arceditor - intermediate
Arcinfo - full load
What are the 3 components of ARC GIS?
Arc map - view and make maps
Arc catalog - manage data
Arc toolbox - analysis and data conversions
List the 3 things raster data is good for?
Continuous data
Overlays
Sattelite images
What are the 2 commonly used projections for resource management?
UTM
Albers Equal Area
3 components of data
Temporal
Spatial
Attribute
What are the 4 spatial entities?
Points
-single coordinate, (lookout tower, landing, city)
Lines
-String of connected points (Roads, Streams)
Areas
-closed string of coordinates. real (lake, field, stand) imaginary (property lines)
Surfaces
-topographic surface (2.5 dimensions)
What does PCS refer to? give an example
How does GIS deal with PCS
Projected Coordinate system
Refers to the Projection version of lat and long, UTM for example
GIS “draws” to a cartesian system but first it converts from the sphere.
What 4 things can be distorted in a projection?
Area
Shape
Distance
Direction
