Q

Why do we need to standardise data?

A

Looking at raw counts of BME groups can often lead to misinformed spatial analysis

Q

What is a Location Quotient?

A

A Location quotient (LQ) is a valuable way of quantifying how concentrated a particular industry, cluster, occupation, or demographic group is in a region as compared to the nation. It can reveal what makes a particular region “unique” in comparison to the national average.”

Q

What is ethnic diversity?

A

− Measures of the mix of ethnic groups in an area

Q

What is the index of dissimilarity?

A

− Designed to measure an unequal geographical spread, and is often interpreted as an indicator of the proportion of one group’s population who would have to move to be distributed across areas in the same way as the rest of the population:
− IoD between two groups, White (w) and Black (b) is: IoD(w and b) = 0.5 Σ |(Pwi / Pw)-(Pbi / Pb)|
