Spatial Compounding & Panoramic Imaging (Lesson 6) Flashcards
What is panoramic imaging?
Produces an image that has a wider field of view than what is available on an individual frame from a transducer
Is panoramic preprocessing or postprocessing?
Preprocessing
How does panoramic imaging work?
Old echo information from previous frames is retained, and new echoes are added to the image in the direction in which the scan plane is moving
Is Spatial Compounding preprocessing or post processing?
Preprocessing
What is Spatial Compounding?
A technique in which scan lines are directed in multiple directions by phasing so that structures are interrogated more than once by the ultrasound beam
How many frames can be averaged to form a final frame in Spatial Compounding?
Nine frames
In Spatial Compounding, how is image quality improved? (4)
1) Persistence (temporal averaging) - speckle reduction
2) Clutter by artifact is reduced
3) Smooth (specular) surfaces are presented more completely
4) Structures previously hidden beneath high attenuating objects can be seen
What is the US button for activating Spatial Compounding?
Crossbeam (x)
