proscenium
audience faces one direction, orchestra pit between audience and stage stage is encased by frame, entrances/exits and scene changes are made behind it
thrust
audience in a semicircle (3/4 of the stage), stage protrudes into the center, the back is the stage house where exits/entrances and scene changes happen
arena
stage is completely surrounded by audience seating, entrances/exits are made through aisles or tunnels underground, raised above floor with seats all around
alley/traverse
audience members are sat directly across from one another with the audience in between, stage resembles a runway
non-theatre buildings
used as they are (lofts, warehouses, fire stations, basements, churches, breweries, and gymnasiums)
site-specific
production created for a location that was not intended to be used as a theatre
