These lie in the costal groove along the inferior margin of the superior rib and pass in the plane between the inner two layers of muscles.
Muscles: 3 layers ○ External Intercostal ○ Internal Intercostal ○ Innermost intercostal External intercostal and internal (and innermost) intercostals muscle fibres run in perpendicular directions - helps with their respiratory function to change internal diameters of thorax to affect intrathoracic pressure for respiration

Posterior border = anterior aspect of sternocleidomastoid
Superior border = lower border of mandible
Medial border = anterior midline of neck

Vessels = internal carotid arteries Nerves = cranial and cervical nerves Muscles = suprahyoid and infrahyoid
Boundaries of posterior triangle of the neck
Anterior border = posterior aspect of sternocleidomastoid
Inferior border = middle 1/3 clavicle
Posterior border = trapezius

Vessels = subclavian artery and jugular vein Nerves = spinal accessory nerve XI, cervical and brachial plexus Muscles = scaleni, levator scapulae, splenius capitis
