Orbit
The curved path around any object with enough mass to sustain a gravitational pull.
Solar System
The sun together with all the planets and other bodies that revolve around it.
Equinox
The time and/or date when Day and night are of equal time.
Solstice
either of the two times a year when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator
Tide
the periodic rise and fall of the waters of the ocean
Galaxy
A system of millions to trillions of stars.
Universe
Everything that exists in our world.
Satellite
A metal disk meant to sent signals.
Impact Crater
An inward circular dent in a celestial object caused by impact by another celestial object.
Axis of Rotation
An imaginary pole that marks the middle point that a circular object spins or rotates on.
Revolution
The complete orbit around a celestial object from a starting point, all around until it reaches the starting point again.
Season
A time of specific weather. (Ex: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter.)
Umbra
the complete or perfect shadow of an opaque body, as a planet, where the direct light from the source of illumination is completely cut off
Penumbra
the partial or imperfect shadow outside the complete shadow of an opaque body, as a planet, where the light from the source of illumination is only partly cut off
Astronomical unit
a unit of length, equal to the mean distance of the earth from the sun
Ellipse
a plane curve such that the sums of the distances of each point in its periphery from two fixed points
Terrestrial Planet
any of the four planets closest to the sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, or Mars
Gas Giant
Any of the four outer planets.
