Space And Beyond Flashcards
What is a geocentric model?
Where the Earth is in the middle of the entire universe.
What is a heliocentric model?
Where the earth is in the centre of the universe
What does SETI stand for?
SETI: search for extra-terrestrial intellegence
What is an appollo mission?
A space program where people where able to go to the moon.
What does HST stand for?
HST: hubble space telescope
What is the Keplar space obervatory used for?
It was launched in order to see planets that can support life
What is a reflecting telescope?
A reflecting telescope is a telescope that uses a single or a combination of curved mirrors that reflect light and form an image.
What is a refracting telescope?
A refracting telescope is a type of optical telescope that uses a lens as its objective to form an image. The refracting telescope design was originally used in spyglasses and astronomical telescopes but is also used for long-focus camera lenses.
What is a retrograde motion?
Where some planets appeared to move backwards.
Who was Galileo Galilei?
He is a famous astronomer who created the heliocentric model and replaced the geocentric model.
What happens when a star dies? (Not a super giant)
The outer core begins too expand and forms a white dwarf and when it cools out and turns into a black dwarf.
What happens when a super giant star dies?
The same process happens too a regular star but instead it explodes into a supernova then turns into a neutron star or turns into a blackhole
What is the big bang theory?
When the universe started leaking intense heat and light and then began to increase and the universe will continue to expand
