What is galileos telescope
A refracting telescope with 2 lens. Objective lens produces image while eyepeice lens magnifies it
What is a hubble space telescope
Large curved mirrors that use the reflection of light to take images of objects. Curved mirror focuses light while a flat mirror reflects this into the eyepeice.
What is a kepler space telescope
Reflecting telescope with a 95 megapixel camera attached. Looks at smae part of the sky at all times
What is galileos telescope used for?
To observe distant objects such as the moons of jupiter
What is the hubble space telescope used for?
To take images of objects in our solar system and of exoplanets
What is the kepler space telescope used for?
To find planets in other solar systems that may support life. Helps to find size of planets.

What is radiation
The particles or waves emitted by radioactive substances
What is radioactive decay?
In a radioactive atom, the nucleus is unstable so emits particles or waves to for. A more stable atom
Properies og alpha particles
Made of 2 nuetrons and 2 protons, + 2 electric charge, relative atomic mass of 4, stopped by paper or a few cm of air, strongly ionising
Properties of beta particles
Made of a high energy electron, electric charge of -1, relative atomic mass of 1/1860, stopped by a few mm of aluminium, weakly ionising
Peoperties of gamma waves
An electromagnetic wave, electric charge and atomic mass of 0, stopped by several cm of lead or metres of concrete, very weakly ionising

Safety precautions of radiation
Exposure times short as possible, store in sheilded containers, wear protective clothing, monitor, use tongs to handle
What is half life
The half life of a radioactive material is the time it takes half the atoms in a sample to decay
How does gps work
Gps receiver detects signals from 3 staellites, each satellite works out the time for the signal to reavh the device so they can calculate distanc, each satellite works out possible locations, position of device= common possibke position, 4th satellite checks
How doradio waves carry a signal from a radiostation to a radio
Sound is converted into an electrical aignal by a microphone of 1s and 0s, digital singal added to carrier wave by transmitter, receiver turns frequency to pick up signal and decode it back into sound.
How does radar find distance
Measures time it takes radi wave to reflect from an object
