he invaded bcuz:
1) he received reports that amin was an american spy
2) if islamic fundamentalism was successful in afghan then the 30 million muslims in the su might try rise up against communist rule
3) persuaded by babrak kamal, he had enough support to form new communist government
4) beleived ameria would not intervene like czechoslovakia invasion in 1968
invasion began christmas day 1979 was initally success amin and supporters killed and kamal decleared president (which he remained till 1986)
