South America Flashcards
Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar, known as “The Liberator,” was a prominent 19th-century South American revolutionary and political leader. Born in Venezuela in 1783, he played a pivotal role in liberating several Latin American countries from Spanish colonial rule. Bolivar’s vision of a unified and independent continent led to the formation of Gran Colombia, a federation comprising present-day Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and parts of Peru and Bolivia. Despite facing numerous challenges, including military conflicts and political upheavals, Bolivar’s military prowess and determination secured the liberation of vast territories, leaving an enduring legacy as a symbol of freedom and national sovereignty in Latin American history.
