Sources of Heat Energy Flashcards
Solar Energy
the energy that is derived from the sun and harnessed through the use of solar panels
Geothermal Energy
the energy that comes from hot water and steam from the inside of the earth (i.e. volcanoes, geysers)
Electrical Energy
the energy of particles moving through a wire or through an electrical device
Nuclear Energy
the energy created in nuclear power plants where energy is formed during nuclear reactions caused by the splitting and joining of atoms
Chemical Energy
the energy stored in the human body, the food you eat, and inside fossil fuels such as petroleum
Elastic Energy
the energy that is stored in objects that are stretched, compressed, bent or twisted
Kinetic (Mechanical) Energy
energy that is created by the motion of objects or the particles within an object
Magnetic Energy
the energy that causes some types of metal, such as iron, to attract or push away from certain other metals
Light Energy
the form of energy that our eyes can detect
Gravitational (Potential) Energy
the stored energy an object has when it is above Earth’s surface
