Q

What is the significance of this source ?

A
  • They are in costume for a satyr play- we can see this as the actors are wearing phallic props (highlights the comedic and undignified nature of the plays) such as Chorus members dressed as Satyrs
  • costumes were very elaborate and intricate- especially those or key characters/ high status such as Heracles and Dionysus also the use of tightly fitted sleeves to hide age and gender so actors play multiple roles
  • more realistic, life like masks were used in tragedy and satyr all actors and chorus wore masks (mostly holding them on the vase)
