Sound Waves Flashcards
What is amplitude?
The amplitude is the maximum displacement of a wave from from its equilibrium (middle) position.
When representing sound, this is how loud the sound is.
What is wavelength?
Wave Distance is the space from one wave to the next, measured in Metres (m)
What is frequency?
The number of waves passing a point per second, Measured in Hertz (Hz).
What is Time period?
Time it takes for 1 wave to pass a point. Measured in seconds (s)
What is Compression?
In a longitudinal wave, the point where the wave fronts/particles move close together.
What is Rarefraction?
In a longitudinal wave, the point where the wave fronts/particles spread out.
Wave Speed Equation?
Speed = Wavelength x Frequency
