Phonology
Mental aspect of the sound in language rather than with the actual physical articulation of speech sounds.
Phonemes
Each one of these meaning distinguished sounds in a language is described as a phoneme.
Ex; fat, van
Bad, pad, / b/ /p/
Phones and allophones.
Phones are phonetics units appear in [ ]
And allophones of that phoneme
Same meaning diff sounds.
Ex/ star , water,
Same sound one diff phonemes. /t/ /r/ / d/
Minimal pairs and sets
Pairs/ two words identical in form expect in one phoneme. . Pat , bat.
Sets: group of words can be differentiated. Each one from other by changing one phonemes. (Always in the same position.)
Ex: feat, fit, fat, fate. Big pig rig.
