characteristics of speech sounds are phonetics how many are there?
There are 3 sounds, articulatory: phonetics sound of speech, acoustic how the sound moves , auditory = how we hear
What are the vowels?

What do we mean by “voiced”?
Voiced: When the vocal cords are drawn together, the air from the lungs repeatedly pushes them apart as it passes through, creating a vibration effect. Sounds produced in this way are described as voiced.
What do we mean Voiceless?
Whenthevocalcordsarespreadapart,the air from the lungs passes between them unimpeded. Sounds produced in this way are described as voiceless.
Voiced sounds:
V+ , z+, b+ ,w+ , m+ , n+ d+ , l+ , r+ ,g+ , thea ,
Voiceless sounds?
F, h, s (shoes ) t, k, p ( pleasure)
Place of articulation:
Bilabials, Labiodentals, Dentals, Alveolars, Palatals. Velars, Glottals
Bilabials
These are sounds formed using both (= bi) upper and lower lips, [b] and [m] and [p] ex: way, pat, bat.
Labiodentals
These are sounds formed with the upper teeth and the lower lip, ( f], which is voiceless, and [v] which is voiced)
Ex: safe, save
Dentals
These sounds are formed with the tongue tip behind the upper front teeth.
Voiceless > [θ], usually referred to as ‘theta
symbol [ð], usually called ‘eth , voiced

Alveolars
These are sounds formed with the front part of the tongue on the alveolar ridge, which is the rough, bony ridge immediately behind and above the upper teeth./
[t] and [s] are voiceless. [d], [z] and [n] (l) are voiced.
Palatals

Velars
Even further back in the roof of the mouth, beyond the hard palate, a soft area called soft palate, Sounds produced with the back of the tongue against the velum are called velars.

Glottals
Its one sound that is produced without using the tongue or any part of the mouth. Its the sound[ h]and its voiceless
