Q

What is Basilar Membrane?

A

In the cochlea and its a long flexible membrane. Different parts of the basilar membrane vibrate at different natural frequencies. When waves pass through the cochlea they resonate with specific parts of the basilar membrane.

Q

What is light Ray?

A

A line in space that matches the direction of the flow of radiant energy.

16
Q

What is Virtual image?

A

An image that forms at a location from which light rays appear to come but do not actually come.

17
Q

What is real image?

A

An image of an object formed by light rays that come together at a specific location.

18
Q

What is diffuse reflection?

A

Reflection of light into random directions

19
Q

What is geometrical optics?

A

The study of light in cases in which light behaves like Ray.

20
Q

Angle of reflection

A

The angle of light rays is reflecting off the surface

21
Q

Angle of incidence

A

The angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection

22
Q

Law of reflection

A

The angle of light rays striking the surface

23
Q

Normal

A

The point where light hits the mirror

24
Q

Convex mirror

A

Mirrors that are bulged out

25
Q

Concave mirrors

A

Indented mirrors

26
Q

Total internal reflection

A

The compete reflection that takes place within a substance when the angle of incidence of light striking the surface boundary is less than the critical angle

27
Q

Lens

A

A transparent object that refracts light waves such that they converge or diverge to create an image

28
Q

Magnification

A

A change in the size of an image compared with the size of an object

29
Q

Prism

A

A system that consists of two or more plane surfaces of a transparent solid at an angle with eachother

30
Q

Dispersion

A

The process of separating a wave of different frequencies into its individual component waves

31
Q

Mirage

A

A virtual image caused by refraction of light in the atmosphere

32
Q

Converging lens

A

Light rays pass through it and bend inward

33
Q

Focal point

A

by adjusting the height of the lens above the paper you can focus the light rays together into a small area

34
Q

Diverging lens

A

When the light rays pass through it they bend outward
