sound Flashcards
what is a pinna?
the Pinna is the fleshy part of the ear on the outside which is made of ridged cartilage covered by skin
what is an ear canal?
the ear drum is the skin and bone leading to the eardrum
what is a eardrum?
the eardrum is a piece of skin stretched out which makes vibrations when hit by sound waves which travel through the tiny bones of the middle ear
what is a hammer(part of ear)?
the hammer is the set of tiny bones connected to the eardrum which pass the vibrations to the incus/anvil
what is the incus/anvil?
a tiny bone which transfers the vibrations from the hammer to the stirrup
what is the stirrup?
the stirrup is a tiny bone which helps transmits the vibrations from the incus to the cochlea
what is the cochlea?
the cochlea is a spiral cavity of the inner ear which contains the organ of corti, this produces nerve pulses which form from response to sound vibrations and sends them to the auditory nerve
what is an auditory nerve?
the auditory nerve is a bunch of fibres which transports nerve pulses from the cochlea to the brain
