How does sound travel?
In a longitudinal wave
Why cant sound travel through a vacuum?
Because the vibrations must be passing through particles
Does light or sound travel faster and e.g
Light travels faster than sound e.g thunder and lightning you always see the light before the thunder
What is an echo?
A reflection of sound from a hard surface
How do ships and bats use echoes to find distance
Echolocation, when a sound wave hits an object it produces an echo then bounces off the object into the bats ear
What is frequency?
How many waves per second ( how close the waves are together or far apart)
What is amplitude?
The bigger the amplitude the transverse wave will get taller and sound louder and the smaller the amplitude the waves will get shorter and sound more quite
What is frequency measured in?
Hertz (Hz)
Do animals have the same range of frequency?
No, different animals can hear different ranges of frequency
What range can a healthy ear hear?
20 Hz - 20,000 Hz
