What is light and how does it travel?
Light is a wave and travels in straight lines
What can light travel through that sound can’t?
A vacuum e.g space
How do we see objects
The sun reflects light onto the object and the object reflects the light into our eye
How are shadows formed?
When an opaque object or material is placed in the path of rays of light
Compare the speed of light and sound
Light travels a lot faster
What are some used of mirrors?
To look at our reflection, driving to look behind, dentist telescope
What is similar about the angle of incidence and angle of reflection
They are the same
What is it called when light bends?
Refraction
What is refraction
The change of direction in light
Why does refraction occur?
Because light changes speed when it enters a different material
What can happen to white light?
Can split to make a spectrum of colours which is called dispersion
What are the spectrum of colours in order?
Red orange yellow green blue indigo violet
What happens when light passes through a coloured filter
Only lets there colour through as all the other colours are absorbed by the filter
What happens with coloured objects?
Reflects only that colour and absorbs all other colours
What happens with white or black objects?
White objects reflect all colours and black objects absorb all colours
