Sorting 2 Flashcards
What does Golgi consist of ?
Consists of membranes that fold like they ER
What is Golgi comparable to when it’s sending proteins ?
Could be compared to FedEx. We put the proteins on a conveyer belt and enzymes are like the package handlers making sure everything looks right before sending the proteins off to where they need to go
What are the four stages of Golgi ?
- Cis face Golgi network
- Medial Golgi Stack
- Trans components Golgi Stack
- Trans surface Golgi Network
What does Cis mean ?
The part closest to the ER
What does trans mean ?
Side of the golgi that is furthest from the ER
What is the whole point of the Golgi ?
To add Sugars to proteins
Do sugars act more like shipping labels or inspection labels in the Golgi ?
Shipping Labels
Do sugars act more like shipping labels or inspection labels in the ER ?
Inspection label
What is one specific example of a sugar going to the lysosome ?
The mannose-6-phosphate
What is the lysosomes job ?
To degrade stuff
What is an example of a good protein that is sent to the lysosome to degrade ?
A protease
What do we call a modified sugar that acts as a shipping label ?
A Signal Patch
What is one example of a destination for a protein that comes form the Golgi.
Sorting to the lysosome, Endosome, cell membrane
Where do neurotransmitters essentially sit ?
In vesicles
What are proteins dependent on in order for them to go to the lysosome ?
Dependent on signal patch (Manno-6-phosphate)
