sonnet 29 Flashcards
I think of thee! - my thoughts do twine and bud about thee
The narrator addresses her lover directly - more personal. Natural imagery shows her thoughts are constantly growing and developing
Rather, instantly renew thy presence; as a strong tree should, rustle thy boughs and set thy trunk all bare
Imperatives and alliteration emphasise how much she wants him to act. ‘set thy trunk all bare’ - possibly an erotic reference.
Drop heavily down, - Burst, shattered, everywhere!
‘heavily’- the weight of her thoughts emphasise how much she thinks of him. Use of three words to show her excitement
I do not think of thee - I am too near thee
Reversal of the first line. She doesn’t have to think of him when she’s with him - he’s better than anything she could ever imagine.
