Somatic NS Flashcards
Where is each muscle fiber controlled?
as a single motor end plate
What is the neurotransmitter at all neuromuscular junctions?
ACh
What does ACh release cause in the muscle fiber?
causes depolarisation of the motor end plate, which leads to muscle contraction
What is the process leading to contraction called?
excitation-contraction coupling
What is a motor unit?
a group of muscle fibers that is supplied by a number of somatic motor neurons
What does the size of a motor unit indicate?
degree of fine control
- very fine control = very small motor units
- no fine control needed = large motor units
How are muscle cells/fibers from different motor units arranged?
intermingled within the muscle group
