Somatic Dysfunction Flashcards
Early muscle spasm is associated with what, in relation to an abnormal end feel?
Protective Spasm after injury
A late muscle spasm is associated with what in terms of an abnormal end feel?
Chronic Spasm; Chronic injury
A soft capsular end feel is associated with what in terms of an abnormal end feel?
Capsulitis/Synovitis
In terms of TART: Restriction of Motion.
What are the differences between the acute and chronic classifications?
Acute: Restricted ROM w/ painful guarding.
Chronic: Restricted ROM, but w/o pain. Compensatory mechs may have occurred.
What are the differences in vascular responses to Tissue Texture changes (TART)? (Ex: Acute v.s Chronic)
Acute: Vasodilation, erythema.
Chronic: Vasoconstriction; increased sympathetic tone.
Contraction is defined as?
Normal tone of muscle; contraction
Contracture of muscle is defined as
Abnormal shortening of the muscle (Primarily due to fibrosis; chronic disease state)
Spasm is defined as what?
Contraction maintained beyond physiological need
Bogginess is defined as?
Fluid buildup in a hypertonic muscle
