Loss of sensory or motor function (paralysis, blindness, mutism) often following an acute stressor; pt aware of but sometimes indifferent toward symptoms (la belle indifference); F > M, adolescents and young adults; Pseudoseizures (stress seizure)

- Counseling
- PT
- Tx related stress & other conditions –> SSRIs and Benzos
- Transcranial magnetic stimulation

- Voluntary control of symptoms (to gain attn for being “sick”)
- Undergoes multiple med and surg procedures
- Munchausen’s
- Self-injected feces or saliva
- bizarre or unusual symptoms
Factitious disorder imposed on self
Name the disorder:
-Munchausen by proxy –> production of intentional symptoms in another individual (usually a child) for the purpose of having the other person assume the sick role

These disorders occur within 3 months of a serious life stressor and lasting less than 6 months (can persist over 6 months in presence of chronic stressor). Can be with:
- Depressed mood
- anxiety
- mixed anxiety and depressed mood
- disturbance of conduct
- mixed disturbance of emotions and conduct
