A technical problem that prevents something from working properly
DEFECT
“The television screen isn’t very clear. I think there must be some sort of defect.”
A problem which causes a delay but it is not a very serious.
HICCUP
“After a slight hiccup, we managed to launch the product on time.”
A solution that has little chance of being successful.
LONG SHOT
“ We could try emailing Kate. It’s a bit of a long shot though - she rarely replies.”
Something that prevents you from making progress.
OBSTACLE
“Lack of employee motivation is a serious obstacle to a company’s financial success.”
A fast and easy solution that solves a problem only for a short time.
QUICK FIX
“Taking out a loan to pay for your bills it’ just a quick fix. You will need to find a more permanent solution.”
Discovering and solving problems.
TROUBLESHOOTING
“ if you have a problem with your computer call Mike. He’s very good at troubleshooting.”
Solution which solve a problem for an extended period of time.
LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS
“ Scientists are studying long-term solution to the problem of global warming.”
A struggle or disarrangement between parties or people.
CONFLICT
“I have a conflict with my next-door neighbour, because he consistently steals my newspaper.”
Examine (something) methodically and in detail, typically in order to explain and interpret it.
ANALYSE
“We need to analyse our results more clearly.”
Feature that renders something less acceptable; a disadvantage a problem.
DRAWBACK
“It’s a great city- the only drawback is the weather.”
The more positive aspects of a situation.
UPSIDE
“ One upside to the new house is its location.”
Negative aspect of something otherwise regarded as good or desirable.
DOWNSIDE
“He says being a rockstar is a fun line of work when you’re young, but admits fame can have its downsides.”
