Solutions: Concentration and Equilibria Flashcards
1
Q
What is molar solubility?
A
the molar concentration of a solute when a solution is saturated, at a given temperature (ie. how much solute is added for complete dissolution and no precipitation)
2
Q
What is Kf?
A
the formation or stability constant of a complex ion in solution
much higher than Ksp
3
Q
what is the common ion effect?
A
reduction in molar solubility due to the presence of a common ion in solution already (when dissolving NaCl but there is already some Cl- in solution, molar solubility will decrease)
4
Q
what are the two absolute solubility rules?
A
- all group I metals are soluble
2. all nitrate salts are soluble
