What is a solvent ?
It’s a liquid that a solute dissolves in.
What is a Aqueous solution
A solution in which water is the solvent.
What does soluble mean ?
Describes a substance that will dissolve in a liquid.
What does insoluble mean?
Describes a substance that will not dissolve in a liquid.
Concentrated?
Describes a solution containing a large amount of solute.
Saturated?
Describes a solution that is unable to dissolve any more solute.
What does dilution mean ?
The process of adding more solvent to a solution to make it less concentrated.
Which flame is hotter on a Bunsen burner?
The working flame.
Where is the hottest part of the flame ?
The orange part of the flame.
What does dissolved mean?
Describes a substance that has mixed completely with a liquid so that it is no longer visible. Dissolving requires the substance to seperate into very small particles.
What is suspension?
A mixture of a gas or liquid and an insoluble substance. The insoluble substance settles to the bottom, when the mixture is left to stand.
What is sediment?
The material that collects when suspensions are left to stand. Insoluble substances that collect at the bottom of a container are sediments. It is also a substance deposited on land or in rivers, lakes or oceans.
What is filtration?
The process of separating suspended particles from fluid through a filter.
