Friction Flashcards
What is the force of friction?
Is the force applied to an object when it moves against the surface of another object.
Why is friction important when you walk?
Because if u didn’t have it you would slip everywhere.
How can u reduce friction?
By making a surface smoother. You can also put oil or grease on on the surface.
What is streamlining?
Is the reducing of fluid friction.
What is fluid friction?
When an object moves through fluid past an object. This is also known as drag.
how is friction bad?
When there is too much
What is an independent variable?
Is something that changes in an experiment
What is a dependent variable?
The dependent variable depends on the indecent variable. It’s also what you measure in an experiment. It also the thing that changes within an experiment.
What is a controlled variable?
Controlled variable are the things you can control in an experiment.
What is a fair test?
A fair test is to make sure you only change one factor at a time in the same conditions
What is Mass and what is its unit of measure?
Mass is the amount of matter in an object and is measured in kilograms.
What is weight and what is its unit of measure?
Weight is the size of gravitional force acting on an object and is measured in Newtons.

What causes a boat to float ?
Buoyancy
What is density and how do you calculate it ?
Is a measure of how tight matter is packed into any material. You calculate it by mass divided by volume and is in g/cm3
What is buoyancy
The force of buoyancy pushes upwards to keep the cruise ship afloat. Buoyancy is the upward push of an object that is floating or submerged in fluid.
What type of machine is a seesaw.
It’s a first class lever and simple machine
What are the three different types of levers?
First class lever - seesaw, scissors Second class lever - wheelbarrow, stapler Third class lever - fishing rod, tongs
What is a permanent magnet?
Am permanent magnet never loses it magnetism.
What is a temporary magnet?
A temporary magnet eventually loses its magnetism
What is magnetic field?
Is where the magnetic force acts
What is an electromagnet?
Is used to store and read magnetic patterns. It is a coil of wire wrapped around an iron core.
Why don’t we fall through the floor?
Because the force exerting from the floor and gravity pulling us in is even.
