Solutions Flashcards
1
Q
Normal Saline (0.9% sodium chloride)
A
Isotonic
2
Q
Lactated Ringer’s
A
Isotonic
3
Q
0.45% NaCl ( Half normal saline)
A
Hypotonic
4
Q
What does a isotonic solution do?
A
Similar in composition to body fluids, used to maintain or increase volume within vascular system. Stays in veins does not move into cells.
5
Q
What are hypotonic solutions?
A
Less concentrated than blood, used to treat fluid and electrolyte imbalance by moving water into the cells.
6
Q
What are hypertonic solutions?
A
Used to correct fluid and electrolyte imbalances. More concentrated than body fluids, pull fluid from interstitial spaces and cells into the veins.
7
Q
3% sodium chloride (3%NaCl)
A
Hypertonic
