Solubility Rules Flashcards
Group I Elements and Ammonium (Li⁺, Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺, Rb⁺, and NH4⁺)
Soluble
Salts with Nitrate, Acetate, Chlorate, and Perchlorate (NO3⁻, C2H3O2⁻, ClO3⁻, and ClO4⁻)
Soluble
Salts with Chloride, Bromide, and Iodide (Cl⁻, Br⁻, and I⁻)
Soluble, with exceptions to salts that have Silver, Lead, and Mercury (Ag⁺, Pb²⁺, and Hg2²⁺)
Salts with Sulfate or Sulfite (SO4²⁻ or SO3²⁻)
Soluble, with exceptions being PbSO4, Ag2SO4, HgSO4, Hg2SO4 and CaSO4, SrSO4, BaSO4.
Hydroxide (OH⁻) Salts
Mostly insoluble. Ca(OH)2, Sr(OH)2 and Ba(OH)2 are slightly soluble, but any hydroxide with a transition metal or Aluminum (Al³⁺) is insoluble.
Substances not listed here
Assume to be insoluble, like chromates, carbonates, sulfides, phosphates
