Solids, Liquids, Gases Flashcards
What is a solid?
A solid is firm and stable in shape; not liquid or fluid.
What is a liquid?
A substance that flows freely but is of constant volume, having a consistency like that of water or oil.
What is a gas?
A substance or matter in a state in which it will expand freely to fill the whole of a container, having no fixed shape and no fixed volume.
What are the properties of a solid?
Definite volume and shape, not compressible
What are the properties of a liquid?
Definite volume and indefinite shape, not compressible
What are the properties of a gas?
Indefinite volume and shape, compressible
What is the Kinetic Particle Theory?
The kinetic theory of matter (particle theory) says that all matter consists of many, very small particles which are constantly moving or in a continual state of motion.
