Open Source Software
Software available to the community at no cost, code can be changed and redistributed.
Freeware
Copyrighted software available to the community at no cost, code CANNOT be changed and redistributed.
Shareware
Software downloadable from the internet, usually trial basis free period followed by purchase.
Cookies
a packet of data sent by an Internet server to a browser, which is returned by the browser each time it subsequently accesses the same server, used to identify the user or track their access to the server.
Defragmentation
(of software) reduce the fragmentation of (a file) by concatenating parts stored in separate locations on a disk.
Spyware
software that enables a user to obtain covert information about another’s computer activities by transmitting data covertly from their hard drive.
Virus
malicious software program that, when executed, replicates by reproducing itself (copying its source code) or infecting other computer programs by modifying them.
Malaware
short for malicious software, computer programs designed to infiltrate and damage computers.
