Soft Tissue X-rays of Thorax and Abdomen Flashcards
Which view is needed for the heart?
Right Lateral
Which Thoracic views are needed for Metastasis check (lung tumors)
Right Lateral
Left Lateral
Ventrodorsal
Why are lung tumors highly visible?
They are soft tissue surrounded by air
Vertical beam direction is what is mostly used for thoracic x-rays. Why would a horizontal beam be used?
Respiratory distress or fluid in the chest.
If the animal is kept standing, the fluid will be low in your x-ray due to gravity. (It’s spread all over the place in a vertical beam x-ray)
How do you take a horizontal x-ray?
Have the animal stand and bring the x-ray tube down to their side.
What thoracic views do you need to assess an enlarged heart?
Right Lateral
Dorsoventral
What thoracic position should be avoided when an animal is in respiratory distress?
Ventrodorsal view (Dorsal recumbent position)
How to you ensure that your radiograph includes the entire thorax?
All 13 ribs should be included
Which abdominal position separates the kidneys?
Right Lateral
Lateral abdominal position aid
Foam pad under sternum to keep spine straight
When collimating an abdominal x-ray, what needs to be included to ensure you have the entire abdominal area (including where the neck of the bladder goes into the urethra)
Entire Diaphragm
Coxofemoral Joint
