Single citizenship
All Indians irrespective of their State of their domicile are citizens of India.
Universal Adult Suffrage
All persons of 18 years of age and above have the right to vote irrespective of their caste, creed, gender, religion, colour, etc.
Fundamental rights
Basic human rights that provide conditions necessary for all round development of human being
Writ
Formal written order issued by Supreme Court and High Courts to provide legal remedies to individuals who do not obtain adequate protection under ordinary laws,
Haebus Corpus
It means ‘to have the body’.
By issuing this writ, the High court or Supreme court can get the body of any person if it has been unlawfully kept.
This safeguards the freedom of citizens.
Mandamus
In Latin it means ‘we order’.
It is a command or an order from a higher court to a lower court that requests the lower court to perform a certain duty.
Writ of Prohibition
Order issued by a superior court to a lower court to stop proceedings in a case which might be in excess of the jurisdiction of the lower court.
Writ of Certioriari
Issued by a superior court to a judicial authority desiring “to be informed of what is going on”.
This is done after the order has been passed by the lower court, unlike the writ of prohibition.
Quo-warranto
It means “by what order”.
It is issued when a person usurps an office.
It prevents people from holding positions that they are not supposed to.
