Group think
Desire for conformity results in group of people coming to an incorrect or poor decision (loss of individual critical thinking)
Group polarization
Tendency for groups to make decisions that are more extreme than what one would make as an individual (politics, terrorism, violence)
Hidden curriculum
Teaches other things besides formal curriculum such as morals and ways to behave
Teacher expectancy
The teachers expectancy affects how the student actually performs. I the teachers expectations are low, the student with perform poorly
Social institution
Well-established social structures that dictate certain patterns of behavior and are accepted by our society
Religiosity
How religious a person is
Sects
Tend to be smaller. Are established in protest of established Church. Revival and break away from the church
Cults
More radical. Break away and reject values of outside society. Short lived because need inspirational leader that eventually will die
Modernization (religion)
Led to more info being available to public and less emphasis in society on religion
Secularization (religion)
Modernization led to this. Weakening of social and political power of religious organizations
Fundamentalism (religion)
Reaction to secularization. When people go back to the strict religious teachings and beliefs. This can create social problems of become too extreme.
Communism
Classless, moneyless system where all property is owned by community
Monarchy
Embodied by single person (figurehead like queen)
Capitalism
Motivated by profits. Private ownership of production. With market economy based on supply and demand.
Socialism
Motivated by what benefits society as as whole. Common ownership of production that focuses on human need and economic demand.
