Folk Culture
traditional folk stories and songs have been handed down from generation to generation

what is an agent of socialisation?
a social group or organisation that passes on cultural norms and values to others
eg families, schools, religions etc.
what’s primary socialisation?
the things the child learns at home from parents. they adopt beliefs and values of the family
what’s secondary socialisation?
where the child learns what wider society expects from its members, generally outside the home.
friends, education, mass media, and religious organisations
what is tertiary socialisation?
adult socialisation which happens when people need to adapt to new roles.
becoming a parent, getting a new job, retiring etc.
What is formal socialisation?
process where people are manipulated to ensure they learn to follow certain rules
eg. children being taught to obey those in authority
what’s informal socialisation?
people learning to fit into their culture by watching and learning from others.
people learn what is seen as acceptable, and learn their role in society

similarities that we share with family members
eg. accents, mannerisms, thinking patterns
