Definition of Bridge?
A type of social tie that connects two different groups in a social network.
Universalistic standards
Everyone is judged by the same standards, regardless of: Family, gender, ethnicity, culture etc.
Particularistic standards
Children are not judged by standards that can be applied to everyone in society.
Norms
The normal unwritten rules of society .E.g. to brush teeth etc.
Values
Are morally accepted in society E.g not randomly fighting
Ascribed status
Status that is by birth .E.g. Princess, prince etc
Achieved status
Status that is achieved from good work E.g. Sir etc
Socialisation function
Socialisation functions is to make people speak to others / make friends etc.
Meritocracy
An individuals advancement in society based on merits rather than wealth and family etc.
Economic function
The use of goods and services for money to grow economy.
Society in miniature
Preparation for life in a wider society. E.g. School is a society in miniature
Equality of opportunity
The same equality for anyone regards: ethnicity, gender, culture.
Integration
The act of integrating into a group of people.
Social solidarity
A value understood my all members of a society
Role allocation
The sifting and finding of roles/ jobs throughout life.
