What is Functionalism?
Functionalism is the sociological perspective about how society works, founded by durkheim which argues that everything in society exists for a reason.
What are the Functionalist Beliefs?
They believe that society is made up by a number of institutions, each of which has a useful function and helps society run smoothly, E.g. Family, education system, religion.
What is the New Right View?
New Right is a movement that gained influence in in the 1980’s.
What are the New Right Beliefs?
They believe in ‘moral superiority’ of the traditional nuclear family, and tends towards the view of sexual tolerance and that single mothers are bad for society. Problems like poverty and unemployment are seem to be caused by an over-generous welfare state.
Why Do feminists Disagree with the New Right theory?
Feminists disagree with the New Right as it has views of traditional families which are seen as oppressive to women and enforcing the patriarchal society.
