socialization
A counting process where an individual learns the appropriate behavioural ways of their social world and this begins in early childhood.
primary vs secondary agents of socialisation
Primary: Teaching individuals the basic skills needed to survive in society. Main: family ( manners, language, potty training, etiquette, sharing)
secondary Teaching individuals how to act appropriately in group situations. Leading influences include friends, sports, and school media. ( teaches how to solve problems, interactions, social rules and decision-making.)
conformity
A process where people change their beliefs, attitudes and actions to more closely match those groups/societies they want to belong in
crime and deviance
actions or behaviours that violate social norms (eg. crime)
discrimination
Practices that exclude, disadvantages or differences between individuals or groups because of traits
Agents of Socialisation
Families, early education, peer groups, the workplace, religion, government, and media all communicate expectations and reinforce norms.
