Define Society
Relationships between all people in a given space like a country.
Define Socialisation
A life long Process where ppl learn Societal values, Ideas, Norms.
Split into 2 Sections:
- Primary Socialisation
- Secondary Socialisation
Define Social Control
Concept that ppls thoughts, feelings, appearance is regulated by Society.
Define Social Change
*Significant *transformation in **cultural **values over time, which leads to long term effects. (only happens if NGB buys into it - THIS GIRL CAN)
Define Social Issues (inequality)
Social Inequality occurs when resources in society are unequally distributed. (Lack of Money, Confidence, Role Models, and Myths and Stereotypes)
Define Social Stratification
Layering of individuals based on Wealth, Status.
Define Disability and give examples
When a person has a physical impairment which affects how they play sport.
Eg: Amputee, MS, Cerebral Palsey
Define Ethnic Groups and give examples
Groups like Black ppl, Indian ppl etc.
Define Gender and give an example
How a person identifies.
Eg: Male, Female, Gender Neutral
Define Disadvantaged People and give an example
ppl that come from working class, so dont have the time or the finances to afford sports. Disabled ppl also count.
What is Discrimination?
When Someone is treated poorly due to atributes like skin colour or culture
What is Stereotyping?
Preconceived idea of a type of people due to physical attributes.
Eg: Race, Gender
What is Prejudice?
Generalised Preconceived idea on a person due to personal attributes. (Black ppl - less educated)
What are the Health benefits of Increased Participation?
Helps to increase cardiovascular fitness by promoting cardiac hypertrophy, Reducing risk of Cardiovascular disease, Decrease in resting Heart Rate
What are the Fitness benefits of Increased Participation?
Improves aerobic endurance, makes a performer feel more ‘fit’, they will be able to run for much longer
What the Social benefits of Increased Participation?
Increase in release of Serotonin, which means happier, Feel more part of a team/group (increases happiness). Get to socialise with other people. (Increased Confidence)
What is Sport England?
Group that help to develop Grassroot sport by working w NGB or other funded partners (such as local partners).
How do Sport England increase Participation nationally
With the help of Local Groups, NGB’s, Sport England will advertise or create campaigns to encourage ppl to play sport (at a grassroot level)
What are Local Partners/ County Sports Partnerships?
Local Partners are things like Active Dorset - groups that help to develop grassroot sport at local level. CSP are groups that work with NGBs, Schools, and Local Authorities to develop sport in counties.
How do Local Partners increase Participation?
They tell/help Sport England to create things in certain areas that may not be able to access it due to being poorer/or because it is easier to access due to transport links etc - StreetGames - bring sports closer to disadvantaged Communities
How do Sport England increase Participation for Women?
By creating campaigns such as: This Girl Can, I Will if You Will (BURY) , Breeze, Us Girls.
How do Sport England increase Participation for the disabled?
Via National Partners such as: Activity Alliance - They help to increase participation by initiatives like ‘Places ppl play’ or ‘Get Equipped’
How do Schools and Community sports clubs work together to increase participation?
Display and advertise local clubs at school.
