- Should not be a heirarchy- result of welfare state - organic society blunted development of the individual.
Which conservatives agree that society developed naturally after the state to satisfy out poor human nature and psychological weakness?
Humans are limited and dependent, craving security and order, liberty + uncertainty Intellectually, psychologically , morally flawed
Traditional- Hobbes- life in the state of nature is ‘nasty, brutish and short’- Burke- we are not guided by reason.
Neo Conservative- Pyschologically and morally flawed- prone to immorality.
Burke, Oakeshott, Hobbes- society mitigates imperfection through pragmatism, heirachy and tradition.

Burke- Aristocracy are wiser and stronger +Oakshott- fine with Politicans coming from the same background because they know how to run society.

-MP’s+ PM’s predominantly from oxbridge.

Neo liberals- Rand+ Nozick- humans are capable of rational thought and do things for self- interest not because they are flawed. +ATOMISITC
Nozick- individuals more important than society- society limits freedom because of obligations like taxation- disagree with ONC’s who believe in Paternalism- society more important.
