What is meant by an organic society?
-The universe and its various parts ought to be considered alive and naturally ordered, much like a living organism.
What do conservatives believe will happen if you are isolated from society?
-you will suffer from anomie.
-This means a sense of isolation, instability and meaningless.
-This can lead to crime, bad behaviour and discontent.
Why is society compared to the human body?
-Human body requires a healthy heart for optimal function.
-Just as a society needs an education system and family to survive.
What do conservatives belive inequality and heirarchy in society will create?
-A strong society.
What do Thomas Hobbes, Oakeshott and Burke believe about an organic society?
-Once the state provides necessary order, society will emerge based on traditions and customs.
What does Hobbes believe about an absolute monarchy?
-monarch control overy aspect like law, religion, parliament, economy.
How does Burke and Oakshott view the development of society?
-societal ideas.
-Burke and his little platoons of localised communities that retain identity + enable wider intergration with the nation.
